This would have placed the size of the endeavor as the fourth largest in the nation. However, the DC area snipers caused event last-minute cancellation beyond the control of the NDMD local organizers. AAPD also wishes to acknowledge the extensive efforts of the National Association of State Directors of Special Education, which planned on sending dozens of students from different parts of the country to Washington, DC, but whose efforts were thwarted for the same reason.
